WOW! What an exit…What a hero…
I myself have never been able to live the dream of quitting a terrible job in a heroic fashion…
The closest I’ve come to being heroic was when I walked out of my first job at a small media planning and buying agency…Reason? I wasn’t given a raise because I didn’t ask for it…You see, I didn’t like asking for money – I still don’t…I expected to be given what was due since my evaluation was good…So, when the cheque came and I saw that I hadn’t been given a raise, I left it on my boss’ desk and walked out…Just like that…He called me later that day and apologized and said since I hadn’t asked for a raise, he thought I didn’t want one (???)…He tried to convince me to return but I had my pride and my parents’ roof over my head…
Later I heard he had referred to me as that green idiot who didn’t know the ways of the world…
I was no hero because FB and Twitter didn’t exist then…
I was no hero because I had walked out on my spindly legs and not slid down a chute with a couple of cans of beer…
I thought of reporting my boss to the income tax department anonymously, but I only thought of it…Guts to hai nahin…
So, here is my advice to those who are unhappy in their jobs – strike when the iron is hot…Be a hero and send Twitter into stratosphere even if you are evicted from your home…

I am in complete agreement with you and once, in Bombay, I quit a job in almost similar circumstances.

read about the news. Your boss was a moron!! How can anyone suppose just cuz someone didn’t ask for a raise he/she doesn’t need one??

I can understand – no one wants to ask for a raise. Which is why I sometime like big companies (in spite of all the hate I and others give them) because the raises come automatically with the appraisal and isn’t left to anyone’s individual choice.
If one has to ask for a raise, you’re made to feel grateful if you get it and humiliated if you don’t. Why should one feel grateful if you deserve it? And no matter how nice the boss is, he or she won’t let you forget that you asked for a raise and they were magnanimous enough to give you one…

I can understand what you mean Guts to hai Nahi….Even when I left my first job I wanted to write a mail that would pinch somewhere with the people….In the end on suggestions of well wishers and friends, I mellowed it down and this is the mail I finally wrote 😦 Not at all Heroic….

What you did was heroic enough. Most people would get stuck in the bureaucracy, the proper method of resignation etc etc, so as not to lose the experience certificate, and such like. I think of your act as quite heroic. Really!

I walked of of a job too. The boss and his secretary was having a fling. It was a small organisation. And it was getting too suffocating in there. One I just walked…. I wish I could kick that @#%^^$# someday!
